The Facts:
The foot specialist treating Vinatieri said Friday that the 10-year veteran, who was injured during conditioning drills Aug. 14, is being treated for a sprained ligament in his left or "plant" ankle and a bone chip -- not a break in his left foot.

There have been rumors that Vinatieri was actually rehabilitating from a broken bone in his left foot. ... Whatever the case, people close to Vinatieri have said that the kicker is taking a "big picture" view of the season, and does not want to do anything that might set back his rehabilitation, even if it means missing a game.
