Jones will start Week 1, regaining the role he lost before training camp after missing voluntary off-season workouts. Asked on Sunday if the Bears had a plan to distribute the carries between Jones and Cedric Benson, Lovie Smith told reporters: "I'll just say that Thomas Jones is our starter. We're excited about that and we'll go from there."

No real surprise here. ... Benson injured his shoulder after taking a hit during a training camp practice and for the second straight year did not play in a pre-season game. Benson held out last season after the Bears chose him in the first round. How much Benson plays could be determined by his health and the effectiveness of Jones.
