Mike Shanahan is being more coy about naming his starting tailback for the Broncos' opener at St. Louis on Sunday. "You'll have to show up to that game, as we talked about before," the coach said Monday. "Good try, though."

It's not that Mike Bell did anything to lose his status as the starter. It's just that Tatum Bell and Cedric Cobbs played well enough this summer to jump into mix to be the Broncos' next workhorse running back. Shanahan and his staff, of course, already know who that will be; they just want to keep the Rams (and at the same time the rest of us) guessing. ... We'll continue to monitor this situation closely and bring you more when/if something slips.
