Chad Pennington Facing Shoulder Surgery
(1/24 10:27 PT)

The Facts:
Pennington, who played the final seven games of the season with an injured throwing shoulder, will undergo surgery in early February to repair a torn rotator cuff, a person with knowledge of the situation said yesterday. A team spokesman said the club isn't commenting on Pennington's status. ESPN reported yesterday that Pennington will require surgery for a torn rotator cuff and "unspecified damage" from previous injuries. Reported by the New York Daily News

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Jets are hopeful that Pennington will be ready for training camp in late July, the person said, but the QB would be cutting it close if it's a complete tear. No one knows or is saying the degree of the tear. The prognosis will depend on the type of surgery. An arthroscopy is less serious, and would allow him to return sooner. If it's a full-blown operation, Pennington probably would be in the four-to-six-month category.
