Chris Simms Has Ruptured Spleen Removed
(9/24 5:25 PT)

The Facts:
Simms had his spleen removed at a Tampa, Fla., hospital after rupturing it in Sunday's 26-24 loss to Carolina. According to a source close to Simms' family, the QB's condition has been stabilized after surgery, during which he received blood transfusions. Simms also has bruised ribs. Reported by ESPN.com

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
It is thought the injury occurred in the second quarter. Simms took several hard hits and left the game for two plays in the second half but returned to help the Bucs take the lead in the fourth quarter. ... Needless to say, Simms will miss considerable time if he's able to return at all this season. Stay tuned. We'll have more as further details are released. In the meantime, look for Tampa Bay to start looking for help at the position. Current No. 2 man Bruce Gradkowski is a raw rookie; veteran Tim Rattay isn't starting material.
