The Facts:
The Packers will designate Franks as their transition player under terms of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations, made the announcement Monday. The Packers will attempt to negotiate with Franks regarding a long-term contract. In the meantime, Franks has a one-year contract at the tight end transition tender number set by the NFL and the Packers maintain a right of first refusal to match any team's offer received by the veteran tight end.

According to those who follow the team closely, the Packers might be able to find a better receiver at the position, but it would be hard-pressed to find a better combination blocker-receiver than Franks.
