The Facts:
"Tagging" Edgerrin James was one of two moves made Tuesday by the Colts. The team also reached agreement with backup running back Dominic Rhodes on a two-year, $4.75 million contract that includes a $2 million signing bonus. Minus a new deal, Rhodes would have been an unrestricted free agent March 2. He has served as James' backup since joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2001

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The Colts are just 3-7 in Rhodes' 10 career starting assignments, but his presence provides team officials the security of having a back who knows the offensive system under contract for the next two seasons. While not regarded leaguewide as a starting-caliber tailback, Rhodes is a very solid player and this move offers legitimate insurance against the possibility that James, who might or might not be pleased to be wearing the franchise tag (he hasn't talke to local reporters since the team's playoff loss in New England), could be a training camp holdout.
