Rosenfels' hand injury suffered in the team's loss Sunday to the Jets has turned out to be more serious than originally stated by the team and the backup has been placed on injured reserve and is out for the season.

Rosenfels suffered a broken right thumb on the last play of the first half when making a tackle on a missed field goal attempt. To replace Rosenfels, the Texans have signed former Denver quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt, who played for Gary Kubiak and OC Troy Calhoun with the Broncos.
