Chiefs president/GM Carl Peterson issued the following statement: “Although Priest Holmes has made much progress medically this fall, we have decided with Priest (and his agent/representative Todd France) that Priest will finish the 2006 season on Reserve/PUP."

The statement went on to explain the Chiefs will evaluate Holmes' physical status again in late January or early February of 2007 -- and if his medical progress continues to improve, the team will not rule out his playing for the Chiefs in 2007. Holmes is still under contract to the Chiefs for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons, and NFL Network insider Adam Schefter reports that Holmes told Peterson he intends to try to return in time for training camp next summer.
