The Facts:
Terms of the new contract were not immediately available, but it is believed that the Buccaneers were seeking a deal that would pay Griese somewhere close to $2.5 million per year base salary. Griese's camp was believed to seeking upwards of $4-5 million per year in base salary. Griese was scheduled to earn a $6 million roster bonus on Mar. 2 and would've had a $8.1 million cap value in 2005 had the Bucs not successfuly reworked his contract.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Griese, who completed 69.3 percent of his passes and tossed 20 touchdowns in 11 games last season, will likely be Tampa Bay’s starting quarterback in 2005. With Griese staying put, Brad Johnson, who lost his starting job to Chris Simms last October, will likely be released before Mar. 2, a move that would give the team approximately $4.5 million in cap relief.
