The Facts:
The Panthers on Monday released 16-year veteran quarterback Rodney Peete and guard Doug Brzezinski in cost-cutting moves that will save the club $2.5 million. Both players could re-sign with the Panthers for smaller contract.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Peete, 39, started for the Panthers in 2002 then signed a three-year contract extension worth $4 million in 2003. But he lost his job at halftime of the season-opener that year to Jake Delhomme, and has been a backup since then. Should Peete decide to call it a career, the team would be left with Chris Weinke and Rod Rutherford below Delhomme on the depth chart.
