Speaking from Miami, where he's recovering from surgery on his right index finger, Owens said he didn't play as well as he could have in 2006. He said the Cowboys didn't do as well as they should have. He said both disappointing results can partly be attributed to Bill Parcells. "I am just hoping his retirement brings promise to what the team has to offer," Owens said. "Hopefully, the owner will hire a coach to take the team to the next level."

Owens said Parcells' old-school ways not only affected their relationship, but impacted the team's play on the field. He said Parcells' coaching style "hurt us. ..." Owens understands there will be speculation that "he ran Parcells out of here" -- especially after a season that included injuries, an accidental overdose and complaints about his role in the offense. ... Not suprisingly, Owens felt his career-high 18 dropped passes were less an issue than the fact he was underutilized.
