The Dolphins have given the Cowboys a Thursday deadline to make a decision on Garrett. ... Jones has long admired Garrett's work and knowledge of the game. Garrett can count on strong endorsement from former Cowboys QB Troy Aikman. Garrett was Aikman's backup in Dallas for seven seasons. Aikman said Garrett is ready to run an NFL team as well as an NFL offense. ... If Garrett gets the OC job, the speculation is the Cowboys are looking toward San Francisco OC Norv Turner or San Diego DC Wade Phillips as head coach.
