The Facts:
Barber officially sent the NFL notice of his retirement the morning of Feb. 12. In a letter faxed to the league office at 11 a.m. ET, he put to rest any rumors or hopes that he would be returning to the league for the 2007 season. "This should set aside any thoughts of a comeback," said Barber. "The next stage of my life is about to begin and I'm truly excited about it."

Those who still wondered if Barber was truly hanging up his cleats have their answer. He leaves as the 17th all-time leading rusher in league history and holds most of the career rushing records for the Giants. Barber will begin his career as a broadcaster with NBC; the network will announce his hiring Tuesday.
