Jason Garrett was finally given the title of offensive coordinator on Tuesday nearly a month after being hired. New coach Wade Phillips also elevated Tony Sparano to assistant head coach with a contract extension through 2009. Reported by the Associated Press

It had been expected that Garrett would be named OC, even though his only coaching experience was the last two seasons as quarterbacks coach in Miami. ... Sparano, who will also continue as offensive line coach, shared play-calling duties on Bill Parcells' staff last season. ... The Cowboys scored 425 points (26.6 per game) and averaged 361 total yards per game last season. It was their most productive offense since 1995, when they won the last of their five Super Bowl titles.
