The Facts:
The Falcons plan to tender restricted free agent quarterback Matt Schaub a one-year qualifying offer of more than $2 million Tuesday, a person with knowledge of the situation said Monday.

Included in that tender is the requirement that if another team signs the highly regarded backup it must compensate the Falcons with first- and third-round draft picks. The course of action is hardly a surprise. By tendering Schaub the highest possible offer with the attachment of hefty compensation, the Falcons are trying to discourage interest or at least get something in return if a team is willing to part with a hefty ransom to acquire the three-year veteran.
