Because Denver insisted on getting a draft choice for Jake Plummer and the Texans won’t part with any of their picks, they’re trying to sign Garcia, who would replace David Carr as their starter.

As Chronicle staffer John McClain reminded readers, the Texans have been expected to trade Carr since last season ended. Once Garcia signs with a new team and is off the market, Carr becomes the most attractive quarterback available. ... Several teams, including Oakland and Tampa Bay, also have been interested. The Raiders are trying to sign a veteran starter and Garcia is reportedly visiting Oakland today.
