The 49ers are considering Boston, a one-time Pro Bowl player whose career has been clouded by troubles on and off the field. If healthy, Boston would help fill a void that became deeper Tuesday when the 49ers lost their top receiver from last season, Cedrick Wilson, to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Head coach Mike Nolan is well aware of Boston's problems but remains intrigued. If he joined the 49ers, he would be reunited with wide receivers coach Jerry Sullivan, under whom he enjoyed his greatest success during a Pro Bowl campaign in 2001 with Arizona.
