The Facts:
The Panthers released Weinke on Tuesday, freeing up $800,000 in salary cap space. Weinke, 34, started three games in place of the injured Jake Delhomme last season and completed 56 of 96 passes for 625 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Delhomme and second-year pro Brett Basanez are the only quarterbacks remaining on the roster. The Panthers likely will look for a No. 2 quarterback in free agency or the college draft. Former Raider Marques Tuiasosopo is expected to visit the Panthers this week.
