Although the Dolphins were believed ready to cut Mare before paying him a $250,000 roster bonus, Herald staffer Armando Salguero suggests they have made that payment already. The reason the team did not cut Mare before paying the roster bonus is that keeping Mare for a longer period improves its chances of completing a trade. The bonus was not so large as to force the team to cut Mare without getting compensation.
