The Facts:
Reports this morning stated the Giants had extended Manning through 2012. That's not true, says the team. In a statement, a Giants spokesman said this: It is the same contract that was reported as 6 years and $45-54 million back in 2004. All of the buy-back bonus and simple escalators that have been earned are included in those same numbers that were initially reported. Eli's contract goes through 2009. We exercised a buyback which was intended to be exercised all along and has been planned for accordingly.

In other words, there is nothing "new" about Eli's current contract status. According to Star-Ledger staffer Mike Garafolo, there have been a few changes in Manning's contract as a result of the "buy-back" option for the team. But as for the length of the deal, everything is the same.
