The Facts:
His former OC gave him an out for his subpar performance in 2006, but Roethlisberger won't take it. He refused to blame his motorcycle accident, his emergency appendectomy or a concussion he sustained for a 2006 season in which his performance and statistics fell off from his first two years in the NFL. "You know what? I might have still had the same year," he said. "Who knows?"

Last month, Ken Whisenhunt said in hindsight, Roethlisberger may have been brought back too soon after his accident and appendectomy -- and that may have made him tentative in the pocket. Roethlisberger disagreed. "No, I don't think anything was rushed. I think I just didn't play well" Roethlisberger said. Roethlisberger threw 18 TDs and 23 INTs last season and went 7-8 as a starter. The previous two seasons, he was 27-4 as a starter, threw 34 TDs against 20 INTs and led the Steelers to a Super Bowl title.
