Carney said he was shocked and disappointed by the Saints' decision to replace him after six years as their kicker. But he was not upset and he leaves New Orleans on good terms. Carney said he asked the Saints to grant him his release and expects that to happen in the next 24 hours.

reports that he plans to retire and he hopes to kick for another team this season. ... The Saints elected to go with a younger kicker with a stronger leg when they traded a sixth-round pick to Miami for Olindo Mare on Tuesday. ...
