Manning has asked his receivers to be at Giants Stadium to work with him when he starts throwing the second week of May. How did Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress respond? "Well, they know about it," Manning said. "We've just got to see. Nothing is guaranteed until it happens."

Of course, Manning has asked them to attend before and they have always said "No. ..." Indeed, Shockey and Burress have annually skipped the technically voluntary program to work out with personal trainers in Miami. New GM Jerry Reese had said he hoped to talk them into attending at least part of the program this year. Manning said in January that he thought Burress "might be here a little bit more this offseason." How much obviously remains to be seen. One certainty? Manning and the coaching staff believe missing the voluntary workouts has been a much bigger deal than Burress and Shockey.
