The Facts:
Davis said he expects Gannon, who has been the Raiders quarterback since 1999, to retire from football. "He took us to the Super Bowl. He was the [NFL] MVP [in 2002], but Gannon has a neck problem and he would be taking a chance of being crippled if he got hit in the wrong way," Davis said. "We don't expect Gannon to come back."

Gannon, who turns 40 this year, restructured his contract last month. The new deal was significant since he was reduced to the veteran minimum for cap purposes -- a savings of $7.235 million in anticipation of his retirement or release after June 1.
