Lane Kiffin said Russell will compete against incumbent Andrew Walter, Josh McCown, Josh Booty and whomever the Raiders have at quarterback in training camp for the starting vacancy created by the release of veteran Aaron Brooks.

It's conceivable that Russell could begin the regular season as the starter, Kiffin said. It depends upon how well Russell grasps the offense and whether he outperforms the other hopefuls. But the coach stressed he doesn't have a timetable for ushering Russell into the starting lineup. But all three QBs selected in the first round last year -- Vince Young, Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler -- finished the season as starters and we fully expect Russell to do the same.
