Tynes said he was surprised by the Chiefs selection of another kicker, UCLA's Justin Medlock, in the fifth round. "I'd have to say it's surprising how fast this has changed," Tynes said. "We've gone from discussing a long-term contract to having them draft a kicker."

Although Tynes felt his job might be safe considering discussions about a long-term contract late last season. Now the job appears to be Medlock's to lose. Tynes' numbers last season were down from the previous season. He made 24 of 31 field-goal attempts and missed a crucial 23-yard try in the playoff loss to Indianapolis.
