The Facts:
With five minutes left in their first mini-camp of the year, the Panthers got their first scare. Leaping for a pass, Smith got tangled up with a defensive back. Smith stayed on the ground a few minutes as medical personnel looked at his left knee. As the rest of the team finished practice, Smith walked around, and everyone on the field let out a sigh of relief. HC John Fox said Smith was fine.

"Any time a player goes down, it's scary, especially when it's that guy, 2004 was flashing in front of my eyes," Fox said. That was the season Smith missed the final 15 games after breaking his left leg in the opener and the Panthers stumbled to a 7-9 record.
