The Facts:
At a time when the media are focused on whether commissioner Roger Goodell may suspend Vick based merely on an indictment related to dog fighting, there could be a separate NFL policy that provides Goodell with an avenue to take action. The league's gambling policy prohibits "[a]ssociating with gamblers or with gambling activities in a manner tending to bring discredit to the NFL."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As PFT editor Mike Florio points out, Vick's indictment contains multiple references to gambling arising from the dog fights in which the QB was involved. Under the league's gambling policy, a violation may result in "severe penalties," up to and including a suspension from the NFL for life. So, Florio suggests that Goodell can conduct his own investigation into the situation and -- should he choose to -- suspend Vick under the gambling policy. ... An interesting theory and one we probably haven't heard the last of. Stay tuned.
