The Patriots and Maroney continue to take a tight-lipped approach to the running back's status. We've maintained all along that team officials wouldn't have been so willing to turn Corey Dillon loose this offseason had they believed Maroney wouldn't be ready to go. Either way, we'll know more on Friday, when the team will hold two public practice sessions. If healthy, Maroney figures to take on an increased load this season. He averaged 12.5 carries per game last season, a number that Boston Globe staffer Mike Reiss suggest will rise to the 16-18 range this year.
