The Facts:
The Cowboys added a receiver to their roster, signing Merritt, who spent four seasons with the Bears. As a receiver, Merritt caught 19 passes for 170 yards over his 29 games in the NFL. He was released by the Bears on Sept. 6, 2004, on their final cut down, and did not play in 2004.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Merritt was mostly a special teams player for the Bears, returning 65 kickoffs over the 2002 and 2003 seasons. He averaged 22.1 yards a return. Merritt also totaled 21 special teams tackles over those two seasons. It's safe to assume those special teams skills were more of a factor in his signing than his receiving skills.
