The Facts:
The Chiefs expect Holmes at practice today even if he doesn't participate. He will begin on the physically-unable-to-perform list, allowing him to run some individual drills. "We want to bring him along slowly, make sure he doesn't get hurt and gauge where he is with his football conditioning," GM Carl Peterson said Friday.

Sounds like we can expect a fairly extensive feeling out process here. ... Without Larry Johnson (holding out) and Holmes on board the first day of training camp, the Chiefs split the first-team snaps Friday between Michael Bennett and rookie Kolby Smith. As long as Johnson holds out, Bennett, Smith and perhaps even Holmes or a younger back like Derrick Ross or Marcus O'Keith will share the responsibilities. ... Stay tuned.
