The Facts:
Smith was all over the place during morning practice, making a number of impressive catches, including a sliding grab on the wet grass. His enthusiasm carried over to a lunchtime interview. After praising the work of his fellow receivers, he eventually added, "This year is going to be outstanding; I look forward to it. I set the goal high. I mean, I feel so good I want to reach 2,000 (receiving) yards this year."

That would break the NFL season record of 1,848, set by Jerry Rice in 1995 with San Francisco. Before you write that off, the Observer staff notes that Smith gained 1,563 in 2005, and 1,166 last season despite missing two games with hamstring injuries and never quite feeling right.
