Ward enters the final year of his contract that will pay him $1,668,750. Steelers president Art Rooney II predicted talks will take place after the draft. In the meantime, Ward plans to attend all the spring workouts and let the Steelers and his agent, Eugene Parker, work on a new deal.

"I've done everything I had to do as far as my performance on the field," Ward said. "So it's really out of my control. I'm here working out, showed up day one of voluntary workouts with my teammates. I'm a leader on this team. I plan to continue to work out and lead this team." How serious is he in that regard? Ward has taken out a $5 million insurance policy with Lloyd's of London in case he has a career-ending injury.
