Gibbs: Doctors Say Clinton Portis On Track
(8/12 7:50 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous update. ... Portis (knee) made the trip to Tennessee but missed his fourth straight preseason game dating back to last summer. While in Tennessee, Portis visited Dr. James Andrews, the noted orthopedist. HC Joe Gibbs said that Dr. Andrews and the team doctors said Portis "is on the right track ... to where [the swelling] will calm down and go away." Reported by the Washington Times

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Hardly a definitive report. ... Meanwhile, Portis and the Redskins are making no secret of their desire to take a cautious approach with the tendinitis currently keeping the star halfback off the field. "I'm going to take my time," Portis told Times staffer Ryan O'Halloran on Thursday. "When I feel comfortable and the training team feels good about me being out there, I'll be out there." Portis wouldn't speculate on whether he will return to practice on Monday. The biggest hurdle is being able to make running back-like moves without pain. Until then, he'll be limited to running in straight lines and riding the bike. And Ladell Betts' stock will continue to rise.
