The Facts:
HC Lane Kiffin missed his third practice with a viral infection Tuesday afternoon , but a team spokesman said he should be back soon. "We're very optimistic Lane will be back shortly, hopefully [Wednesday]," the spokesman said. "We don't know that for sure, but we're optimistic he'll be back very soon."

OC Greg Knapp and DC Rob Ryan again ran practice, but most of the drills had been planned out by Kiffin well in advance. Knapp tried to play Kiffin's role by yelling, "get me a new tight end" after one false start by Tony Stewart, but the atmosphere was clearly different from usual. Even so, the players said Kiffin's influence could still be felt and they know he'll be watching tape of the practices so they better not mess up. ... Stay tuned.
