Unable to trade the veteran QB, the Jaguars released Leftwich on Saturday. "I do want to thank Byron and acknowledge all that he has done for this organization," owner Wayne Weaver said. "He is a professional and he will do well wherever he goes."

As previously reported, HC Jack Del Rio announced on Friday that David Garrard would take over as the team's starting QB. Garrard clearly outplayed Leftwich in the preseason. In five seasons, Leftwich had a 24-20 records and threw for 9,042 yards with 51 touchdowns and 36 interceptions. ... While the Falcons seem to have a need, team officials in Atlanta claim they're not interested in Leftwich. The Ravens might be, however. ... Stay tuned.
