The two contenders, Daunte Culpepper and Josh McCown, declined to share their inside information. Judging by body language, it looks like Culpepper, who was all smiles compared to McCown's sighs, will start his eighth straight season opener.

Then again, Chronicle staffer Dave White suggested they might be under orders to act the opposite of how they feel about getting the news. You never know with the Raiders. Indeed, both ESPN.com's Michael Smith and NFL Network insider Adam Schefter are reporting McCown is the likely starter. Whatever the case, Kiffin said he "might" go public with his starting quarterback today, or he might just wait until Sunday's season opener against the visiting Detroit Lions. ... Stay tuned.
