The Jaguars signed Carney on Tuesday. Carney, an 18-year veteran who was with the New Orleans Saints in 2006, will take the spot of Josh Scobee, who suffered a strained quadriceps in pregame warm-ups for Sunday's season-opening 13-10 loss to Tennessee.

Scobee made a 22-yard field goal against the Titans but he was unable to attempt what would have been a 36-yard attempt later in the contest. Some reports have suggested Scobee could miss up to two months. ... Meanwhile, the 43-year-old Carney connected on 23-of-25 field goals in 2006. His 92-percent conversion rate was third in the league and his 115 points ranked ninth. In 261 career games, Carney has converted 413-of-505 field goals with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers and New Orleans.
