Panthers Deny Jake Delhomme Needs Surgery
(10/1 8:35 PT)

The Facts:
A FOXSports reporter said on the network's pre-game show Sunday that he had learned in a talk with John Fox this week that Delhomme, who did not play Sunday with what has been described as a sprained elbow, would need surgery, if not soon, then after the season. GM Marty Hurney, though, said before the game that that isn't the case. "There's no surgery scheduled or planned at this time," Hurney said. "From the very beginning we've said that. We're re-evaluating this on a day-to-day basis while Jake is going through the rehab process." Reported by the Charlotte Observer

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Hurney went on to stress: "Rehab is the first option, how the body part feels through the process determines what goes on from day-to-day.'' Delhomme dressed for the game and was designated as the team's third QB. A tell-tale sign that the Panthers aren't expecting surgery anytime soon was that they didn't sign a veteran QB to the roster last week. Asked about the network's comment after the game, Fox said, "There's an option that he could have surgery. I can't tell him what he's going to have. It's his arm and his body, but that is a possibility. ..." We'll remind you where there is smoke there is often fire.
