Smith said he is more encouraged than ever he will be able to return for the team's Oct. 21 game against the New York Giants. Smith, who suffered a Grade 3 shoulder separation a week ago, took a few throws before Sunday's game and said his arm felt good.

Smith said he expected to begin throwing with a Nerf football but that his arm was strong enough for a regulation ball. He started with a few short passes and eventually worked his way up to 15-yard tosses. "I thought I'd make some improvement early, but the last couple of days have been great," Smith said. ...
