The Chiefs announced Saturday they have activated Holmes, and he is expected to be in uniform for tomorrow's game at Oakland. He will back up starter Larry Johnson.

Holmes has not played in a game since suffering head and neck injuries from a hit nearly two years ago -- on Oct. 30, 2005. His return to the Chiefs' lineup will be regarded as one of the most remarkable comebacks in the history of the NFL, if not major-league sports. ... As interesting as Holmes' return is, it remains to be seen what role he'll play (if any this week). Owners with Johnson on their rosters certainly shouldn't panic.
