The Facts:
Uncertain of his future just weeks ago, Batch is back with the hometown Steelers after agreeing to a one-year, $750,000 contract, the minimum he can make as a six-year veteran. The deal counts only $450,000 against the Steelers' salary cap, per terms of the NFL's collective bargaining agreement.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Batch's first hurdle is returning to health after undergoing a procedure known as microfracture surgery on his knee Aug. 13. He sustained the injury at Steelers training camp and has spent the past seven months rehabilitating. Batch is uncertain if he'll participate in mini-camp May 6-8. Team doctors are scheduled to re-examine the knee next week. ... If healthy, Batch will compete with former starter Tommy Maddox and two-year vet Brian St. Pierre for the backup job to 2004 Rookie of the Year Ben Roethlisberger.
