The Facts:
Derrick Ward will practice this week and, barring any setbacks, will play Sunday against the Vikings, according to a person familiar with the decision to green-light Ward's participation in drills with the rest of his teammates. It will be his first game since the Oct. 21 win over the 49ers. The only question is, will Brandon Jacobs be in uniform to share the load with Ward?

Even if tests performed Monday no severe tears to Jacobs' hamstring (and the Giants aren't say for sure), his status for Sunday's game could be in doubt. Hamstring injuries are easily reinjured and can linger if not rested properly. Plus, Jacobs and the Giants will be playing outdoor games in cold-weather climates for the last six weeks of the season. Cold weather can cause muscles to stiffen and, thus, increase the odds Jacobs will reinjure himself if he plays. ... We'll be following the status of both men closely in coming days.
