The tight end's return to the Giants' voluntary off-season training program turned out to be a brief one that included two days of workouts and 45 minutes on the field. And after his only throwing session with Eli Manning yesterday, Shockey said he'd be returning to his own workouts at the University of Miami because "I'm just trying to do what's best for me."

Manning wants Shockey in New Jersey so they can get their timing down. Shockey, meanwhile, wonders why he was the only player being targeted for criticism when others -- like Plaxico Burress -- are skipping the program, too. Manning said he has spoken to Burress and he expects his newest receiver "hopefully" will rejoin the program when it resumes on May 9. Manning said he didn't expect to get in another workout with Shockey before the mandatory mini-camp June 1-3.
