The Facts:
Hill is scheduled to undergo surgery on his right index finger on Wednesday. He'll have a bone graft from his left wrist and the ligaments will be reattached. It'll probably be six weeks before he's able to throw a football.

Hill told reporters he definitely wants to re-sign with the 49ers next season. And in his comments to KNBR after the game, HC Mike Nolan said training camp will open up with competition at QB. "No question, they will compete." Nolan didn't say and wasn't asked who they are, but you assume it's Alex Smith and Shaun Hill. "There's no question [Hill] inspired the football team. ..." Of course, Nolan has to survive an as yet unscheduled meeting with ownership to have a hand in picking the 2008 QB. But Hill clearly deserves a chance.
