Gates' toe is sprained and dislocated, which is still a sprain. It appears unlikely he will play Sunday in Indianapolis, and the Chargers are moving preparing to play without him.

The above reporting, done by reliable Union-Tribune beat writer Kevin Acee, certainly expands upon HC Norv Turner's take on the injury. Turner told reporters this afternoon: "Gates has been described as a big-toe sprain. He had an MRI this morning. We have not got the results back yet but it'll be day-to-day and we'll see how it is at the end of the week. ..." Our guess is Acee's report is closer to the truth than Turner's.
