GM Mike Tannenbaum wouldn't come right out and say that he will appease Coles with a contract extension, but he said the organization's goal is to keep Coles in a Jets uniform for "a long time."

Coles has two years, $11 million remaining on his current deal. Presumably, a "long time" means more than two years. According to Daily News staffer Rich Cimini, Tannenbaum spoke of Coles in almost reverential terms, saying, "He has almost a Curtis Martin-type persona in the building."
