New England Patriots director of college scouting Tom Dimitroff is to be named the general manager of the Atlanta Falcons, according to a report on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's web site Saturday.

A New England team official confirmed for ESPN.com before Saturday night's divisional-round playoff game against Jacksonville that Dimitroff has accepted the job. NFL Network insider Adam Schefter is reporting the same. ... Dimitroff will face a daunting task in rebuilding a threadbare roster and in helping to make viable again. He will also be responsible for hiring the new Falcons head coach.
