The Chargers have declared FB Lorenzo Neal, WR Malcom Floyd and TE Scott Chandler inactive for today's game against the Colts; Indianapolis will be without RB Clifton Dawson and WR Craphonso Thorpe.

The fact that San Diego didn't leave Chandler on the active roster could be interpreted as confidence in Gates' ability to make it through the full game. By all accounts, Gates as able to cut and accelerate well enough to play during pre-game warmups. As the San Diego Times-Union put it: "Gates did not appear to go all out, nor did he seem all that bothered as he walked off the field. ... Gates is facing offseason surgery, and there is no guarantee how much he will play today. ..." Meanwhile, all indications are Marvin Harrison will start for the Colts, but ESPN's John Clayton has suggested the team will try to get him involved early because they aren't sure how long he'll be able to go after his extended absence.
